TransLinc delivers new Citroen fleet to North East Derbyshire District Council
North East Derbyshire District Council has taken delivery of 72 new Citroen light commercial vehicles from local authority specialist fleet provider, TransLinc.
All vehicles have been supplied on a five year Contract Hire with Maintenance agreement as part of a 10 year contract with NE Derbyshire District Council. The fleet replacement arose from a joint review undertaken between NE Derbyshire District Council and their strategic housing partner, Rykneld Homes.
The fleet includes four Citroen Relay heavy vans, 16 Citroen Dispatch vans, 46 Citroen Berlingo vans and six Citroen Nemo vans. They will replace the existing vehicle fleet used by Rykneld Homes, the arms length management company responsible for the maintenance and repairs for NE Derbyshire District Council’s housing stock.
Rykneld Homes was keen to find out what the operatives thought about the proposed new fleet and in partnership with TransLinc organised a ‘Ride and Drive’ event for the end users, allowing them to test drive a number of vehicles from different manufacturers and to give feedback. In addition, TransLinc also invited a vehicle racking supplier to attend so that users were able to select the correct internal fittings to suit their needs.
Dave Overton, Regional Sales Manager for TransLinc, said: “Feedback from the Ride and Drive day was very encouraging, with the Citroen range coming out particularly strongly due to the depth of vehicle offering available across its LCV range.
“We worked very closely with North East Derbyshire District Council and its end user departments to understand their exact requirements and from this we identified that smaller vehicles would be suited to the role,” he added.
Steve Brunt, Streetscene Services Manager for North East Derbyshire District Council, said: “Working with Rykneld Homes we have completely reviewed the way that housing maintenance is operated, which is influencing operational changes. This in turn has meant a full review of the type of vehicles needed and how we use them to deliver the service. The opportunity to view a range of vehicles before selecting our fleet enabled us to select the most efficient vehicles for the job.”
Robert Handyside, Commercial Vehicle Operations Manager for Citroen, said: "The comprehensive Citroen LCV range included the optimum model for each of North East Derbyshire District Council and Rykneld Homes operational requirements. The combination of Citroen's advanced design and optimum vehicle specification will see the operator benefit from lower costs, reduced emissions and greater efficiency."
The fleet also features a new livery to reflect the changes to the maintenance service now provided by Rykneld Homes and is being delivered in staggered batches over a six week period.
