TransLinc ensures Local Authorities are prepared for changes to HGV legislation The UK’s leading local authority fleet service provider, TransLinc is taking steps to ensure all of its customers are ready to comply with the changes in EU Legislation due in March 2009 on the retrofitting of enhanced specification mirrors to vehicles over 3.5tonnes. The new visibility guidelines, introduced to enhance the drivers near side field of view and protect vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians, cyclists and motor cyclists are particularly relevant for a large proportion of the vehicles supplied by TransLinc that operate in urban areas. The vehicles affected includes Refuse Collection Vehicles, gritters, large road sweepers and tippers which will all be retro-fitted with Class IV (wide angle) and Class V (close proximity) mirrors that the EU predict could save up to 400 lives each year. |
