Grittny Spears, Anti-Skid Sid and the Ice Monster descend on Cambridgeshire

Local Authority fleet service provider, TransLinc is celebrating the official naming of Cambridgeshire County Council’s winter maintenance fleet, following a ‘Name the Gritter’ competition, held this autumn for children within the local area.

The winners of Cambridgeshire County Councils Gritter naming competitionTransLinc has been working extensively with the Highways team at Cambridgeshire Council, supplying Volvo chassis’ for its entire gritting fleet of 30 vehicles on a contract hire with maintenance agreement for seven years. The recent winter weather has brought the gritters out in force, complete with their striking new named livery, to keep the county roads moving safely.

The competition, run by the Council’s road safety education department, enabled children from different parts of the county to suggest the name for seven new gritting vehicles that will operate in their local area. The winning names, listed with the children who suggested them, were:

Keira Mingay - Anti-freeze Louise, Anti-skid Sid and Brad Grit
Zack Stevens - Grittny Spears
Kacey Day - Snow Go
Jack Laud - Ice Monster
Rickey Wells - Skitty Gritty

Dave Overton Regional Sales Manager, for TransLinc said: “The competition was a great idea to raise awareness of the work carried out by the East Highways Division. The county of Cambridgeshire has such a vast network of roads and many isolated villages, making the work of the gritters vital to keep local residents on the move.”

Graham Mallott, Area Manager (Maintenance) said: ”Our gritting fleet plays a major role in keeping the county’s roads clear during the winter months; this has been a great competition that has really got a lot of local children involved. The gritters have had their chosen names written on, so look out for them this winter.”
