TransLinc delivers brand new Optare shuttle bus to Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Foundation Trust
TransLinc, the UK’s leading provider of passenger services to local authorities, schools, health authorities and public sector clients has delivered a brand new 26-seat Optare Solo Bus to support Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Foundation Trust.
The vehicle powered by the latest MAN diesel engine technology and is fully wheelchair accessible. It will run on the free non-stop hospital shuttle service between the Doncaster Royal Infirmary and the Montagu Hospital in Mexborough, which currently carries over 1000 passengers per week.
TransLinc has been working with the Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Foundation Trust to ensure its shuttle service features the latest vehicle tracking technology by Masternaut 3X to record the punctuality of the vehicle in order to monitor its performance whilst in use.
The service is operated and maintained by TransLinc’s Doncaster regional depot and all staff working on the non-stop hospital shuttle are both experienced and well trained to ensure a high level of passenger service, particularly for those requiring wheelchair access.
Margaret Serna, Director of Passenger Services for TransLinc said: “We have worked closely with the Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Foundation Trust to improve the service offered through its non-stop hospital shuttle. The vehicle has been supplied with a striking livery and features the latest technology including digital signs inside the bus to communicate information and key messages about the hospital. All staff at TransLinc’s Doncaster depot are also members of the Hospital Trust, demonstrating our commitment to providing a sterling service within the area.”
Funded by the Fred and Anne Green Legacy, the non-stop hospital shuttle between the Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Montagu Hospital has been operating since 2001. It was developed to give patients, relatives, carers and visitors free and easy access from one hospital site to the other and undertakes 10 round trips per day.
Roy Tyson, Director of Facilities and Commercial Development for the Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Foundation Trust, said: "The shuttle bus has proved extremely popular with patients, carers, visitors and staff. We are delighted to be continuing the service with TransLinc, with funding from the Fred & Ann Green Legacy. The service will have the same timetable as before and the new shuttle will build on the achievements of the past seven years to provide an even better service between Montagu Hospital and the Doncaster Royal Infirmary.”
